　　史考特（艾迪·墨菲 Eddie Murphy 饰）是一名反应机智、精通罪犯心理的资深警探，负责解救人质和谈判与歹徒的交涉。一天，他突然被长官指派与毫无实战经验的菜鸟凯文（迈克尔·拉帕波特 Michael Rapaport 饰）合作办案。史考特表面上接受了这个安排，但私下里仍然和老友山姆合作。然而，山姆却在执勤中意外丧生。　　为了向好友报仇，史考特只好与凯文合作展开行动。与此同时，杀害山姆的歹徒又抢劫了一家珠宝店。史考特和凯文追踪到了这名歹徒，但没想到他竟然越狱，并将史考特的女友作为报复对象锁定。一场致命的游戏开始了，史考特和菜鸟凯文必须紧密合作，共同追捕这个危险的歹徒。
